Success breeds success

Nothing helps success like a little taste of success.  The better we do, the more we want to do even better.  I have come to this revelation while dieting, but it applies to everything.  Life, work, kids, everything.  Find something you can excel at and crush it!

Focus Grasshopper

Sometimes multi-tasking is a sure fire way to get nothing done.  When the job calls for it, shut the door, stop checking e-mail, disconnect the phone, and get it done.

Focus on the moment.

Good Days

Is there anything better than a good day at work.  I mean its work, its not like you are there for the pure joy of it, but when you do something really well and you get that series of fortunate events all culminating into the rare "good day at the office", enjoy it.

Sports

One of the best things about having kids is the fact my dependence on sports has been replaced or at least lessened.  I can remember a time in the not too distant past where a loss for the Bengals (which at the time happened most Sundays) would keep me in a bad mood until Wednesday the next week.  Now don't get me wrong, I still curse at the TV (which my kids find hilarious), but generally when the game is over I can pick up one of the twins or wrestle with one of the big kids and in 5 minutes I don't give an iota about that game anymore.

Happy Sunday!

Failure

Life is all about how one responds to failure.  I have learned the most (I think) from my poor decisions and bad choices.

Here is to getting myself up, dusting myself off, and getting back on that horse.

#YearofEric

2011 was a dramatic year for me, new job, birth of the twins, a lot of excitement.  But 2012 was rather flat.  Not to say it was bad or good, just flat.  Like the episode of Seinfeld where Jerry realizes that everything in his life breaks even.

So 2013 is going to have to be better, and I am going to have to do something about it.  Many years ago, I had the Summer of Love, not unlike the Summer of George (find it on youtube and laugh).  So I have decided this will just have to be the Year of Eric (see title).

I have created a few goals for the year and I fully intend to accomplish them.

Goals:

1. Get into better shape, not "hey look at my abs shape", but "hey don't I look GD awesome in this suit shape".  That starts today!  I want to weigh 190 pounds on April 1.

2. I want to create 300 tweets, 300 blog posts, 300 pics, and 300 videos before the year is out.

3. I want to update my image, pay more attention to how I dress and my appearance.

4. I want to learn Spanish (at least learn more).

5. I want to learn HTML (at least enough to have some fun with this blog and the HTML apps which work within it).

6. I want to do something for charity this year, I don't know what but I want to do something I can sustain (like start a charity golf outing).

7.  I want to go out with my wife more this year, once a month!

8. I want to be more social this year, make an effort.  Do something in the world with or without kids monthly!

9. I want to spend less time "browsing" the internet, less than 30 minutes a day.

10. I want to smoke more cigars, drink more beer, drink more wine, experience more new things.  At least one new thing a month.

I will try to keep this up in the #YearofEric

Wish me luck!

Happy 2013

Not only did we stay in last night, but we didn't even pay attention to the time until about 11:58 when my wife looked at her phone and said its almost time.  Our New Year 2012 was a train wreck, sick kids and all, so this year we were determined to get through with zero issues.  Mission Accomplished.

Instead of even pretending like we knew how to have fun, we watched two movies: Pitch Perfect and Bourne Legacy.  Both movies were actually pretty good and probably worth the 5 bucks I dropped on them.

Pitch Perfect is kind of weird and features an unnatural amount of singing, but the singing is actually integral to the plot so its not really a musical.  There are just enough funny bits scattered in between the harmony to make it enjoyable, and I think the wife really liked it.

Bourne Legacy breaks pretty much my cardinal rule with movies, messing with the back story of a prequel movie to make a sequel work.  Besides that heinous action, the movie is pretty good.  Lots of shooting, ass whooping, and car chases to keep you happy.  Its by far the weakest of the Bourne series, and they pretty much jumped the shark by ditching the main character and creating a side story, but they will probably make 8 more of these and I will probably watch all 8.
