I Have Failed... AGAIN!

I have been trying to lose some weight this year.  Well frankly I have been trying to lose the same 20 pounds my entire life, except somehow that 20 has become 40. I was trying to eat well and exercise. I am sincerely trying to do the right things, but I just keep missing the mark. Snack here or there, an extra beer or two, an extra slice of pizza or taco.  It is so frustrating, I feel like I am doing what I should be doing 90% of the time and that last 10% is killing me.

So... what do I do.

I failed, so what, lets start over. AGAIN!!! Its not like I have a choice. I can either work on this or I can live in my failure and I refuse to do that.

I did some searching on how to "start a goal over".  The Interwebs gave some insights that I will share here.

Good Luck!!!

How to overcome a failed objective and start over:

1. **Acknowledge Your Feelings**: First and foremost, give yourself permission to feel whatever emotions come up. It's okay to feel disappointed, sad, or frustrated. Acknowledging these feelings is the first step towards moving forward.

2. **Analyze What Happened**: Take a step back and analyze the situation. What went wrong? What could have been done differently? This reflection is not about dwelling on the past but learning from it. Identifying these factors will empower you to make more informed decisions in the future.

3. **Reframe Your Perspective**: Change your view of failure. Instead of seeing it as a negative endpoint, view it as an opportunity for growth and learning. Every successful person has faced setbacks; what sets them apart is their resilience and ability to learn from these experiences.

4. **Set New Goals**: Once you've processed your experience and learned from it, it's time to set new goals. Be realistic but don't be afraid to challenge yourself. Break down your objectives into smaller, achievable steps to prevent feeling overwhelmed and to track your progress more effectively.

5. **Seek Support**: You don't have to go through this alone. Share your thoughts and feelings with trusted friends, family, or a mentor. Sometimes, just talking about your experiences can provide new insights and the encouragement needed to move forward.

6. **Embrace a Growth Mindset**: Cultivate a growth mindset by believing in your ability to grow and improve. This mindset will encourage you to embrace challenges, persevere through setbacks, and view effort as a path to mastery.

7. **Take Action**: Finally, take that first step. Action breeds confidence and courage. It's okay to start small; what's important is that you're moving forward. Remember, progress, not perfection, is the goal.

Remember, every failure brings you one step closer to success. It's all about how you choose to respond to it. Keep pushing forward, stay committed to your growth, and believe in yourself. Your resilience and determination will lead you to overcome any challenge and achieve your objectives.

Options Strategies: A Guide for Investors

 ### Exploring the Risks and Rewards of Options Strategies: A Guide for Investors

Options trading, a form of derivative trading, offers investors a way to leverage their investment strategies, potentially increasing their returns while managing risk. However, options trading is not without its complexities and risks. Understanding both the rewards and risks associated with various options strategies is crucial for investors aiming to incorporate these instruments into their portfolios effectively.

#### Rewards of Options Strategies

1. **Leverage**: Options allow investors to control a larger amount of the underlying asset with a relatively small investment. This leverage can amplify returns significantly when the market moves in favor of the investor's position.

2. **Flexibility**: There are numerous options strategies, such as calls, puts, straddles, spreads, and more, each serving different market outlooks and risk appetites. This flexibility enables investors to tailor their market exposure and risk level precisely.

3. **Hedging**: Options are an effective tool for hedging against portfolio risk. Investors can protect their stock holdings from adverse market movements by purchasing put options, effectively insuring the value of their portfolio.

4. **Income Generation**: Certain options strategies, like writing covered calls, can generate income on existing stock positions. This strategy can be especially attractive in flat or slowly appreciating markets.

#### Risks of Options Strategies

1. **Complexity**: The wide array of options strategies available can be daunting, and each comes with its unique risk/reward profile. The complexity of these instruments requires a deep understanding to use them effectively and avoid costly mistakes.

2. **Leverage-Induced Losses**: While leverage can amplify gains, it can also magnify losses. A small movement in the underlying asset price in the opposite direction of your position can result in significant or total loss of the investment.

3. **Expiration and Time Decay**: Options are time-sensitive instruments that lose value as they approach their expiration date, a process known as time decay. If the market does not move as anticipated within the timeframe, the option can expire worthless, resulting in a total loss of the premium paid.

4. **Liquidity Risk**: Some options contracts, especially those with longer terms to expiration or on less popular underlying assets, may have lower liquidity. This can result in wider bid-ask spreads and might make it difficult to exit positions without incurring significant losses.

### Conclusion

Options strategies, with their ability to offer leverage, flexibility, hedging, and income generation, can be powerful tools in an investor's arsenal. However, the potential rewards come with significant risks, notably the complexity of the instruments, the amplified losses due to leverage, the challenges posed by time decay, and liquidity risk. It's essential for investors to educate themselves or consult with experienced financial advisors to navigate these waters carefully. The right approach can unlock the potential of options strategies while managing the inherent risks, aligning with the investor's overall financial goals and risk tolerance.

The Benefits of an Extended 4-Day Fast and Tips to Manage Hunger Pangs

Fasting, the practice of abstaining from food and drinks for a specific period, has been a part of human culture and health practices for centuries. While intermittent fasting has gained popularity in recent years, extended fasting periods, such as a 4-day fast, are being recognized for their profound health benefits. This type of fasting can lead to a variety of physical and mental health improvements, including weight loss, enhanced brain function, and a reduced risk of chronic diseases. However, embarking on a 4-day fast requires careful preparation and an understanding of how to manage the challenges, such as hunger pangs, that come with it.

#### Health Benefits of a 4-Day Fast

1. **Autophagy:** Extended fasting periods initiate autophagy, a process where cells clean out damaged components, which can lead to a reduction in inflammation and a lower risk of diseases like Alzheimer's.

2. **Weight Loss and Metabolism:** Fasting for extended periods can help in weight loss by forcing the body to use fat as its primary energy source, thus improving metabolic health.

3. **Improved Insulin Sensitivity:** A 4-day fast can decrease insulin resistance, lowering blood sugar levels and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

4. **Enhanced Brain Function:** Fasting can promote the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that supports brain health and could protect against depression and cognitive decline.

5. **Detoxification:** Extended fasting gives the digestive system a break, allowing the body to focus on detoxification processes.

#### Tips and Tricks for Managing Hunger Pangs

1. **Stay Hydrated:** Often, what we perceive as hunger is actually thirst. Drinking plenty of water can help mitigate hunger pangs. Herbal teas and black coffee (in moderation) are also good options to help you stay hydrated without breaking your fast.

2. **Stay Busy:** Keeping your mind occupied can help distract you from hunger. Engage in activities like reading, walking, or meditating to pass the time and keep your mind off food.

3. **Get Adequate Rest:** Sleep is crucial, especially during a fast. Lack of sleep can increase hunger hormones. Ensure you're getting enough rest to help manage appetite and reduce food cravings.

4. **Consume Electrolytes:** A lack of electrolytes can worsen the feeling of hunger. Adding a small amount of salt to your water, or consuming an electrolyte supplement that doesn't contain calories, can help manage hunger pangs.

5. **Use Mental Strategies:** Practice mindfulness or visualization techniques to cope with hunger. Remind yourself of your fasting goals and the benefits you're working towards to stay motivated.

6. **Break the Fast Gently:** When it's time to break your fast, start with a small, light meal. Consuming a large meal immediately after an extended fast can lead to discomfort and digestive issues.

#### Precautions

While a 4-day fast can offer significant health benefits, it's not suitable for everyone. Individuals with certain health conditions, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those with a history of eating disorders should avoid extended fasting periods. Always consult with a healthcare professional or a dietitian before starting any fasting regimen to ensure it's safe and appropriate for you.

#### Conclusion

Embarking on a 4-day fast can be a rewarding experience with numerous health benefits. However, it's essential to approach fasting with caution, proper preparation, and an understanding of how to manage potential challenges such as hunger pangs. By staying hydrated, keeping busy, ensuring adequate rest, and consuming electrolytes, you can navigate the fasting period more comfortably and reap the full benefits of your fasting journey.

Movie Review: Dune 2

Dune: Part Two - Too Much Movie for a Movie

Denis Villeneuve’s ambitious continuation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi saga, "Dune: Part Two," is a cinematic event that was anticipated to eclipse its predecessor in both scope and spectacle. Yet, as the credits roll, one cannot help but feel that the grandiosity of Herbert's universe has been somewhat underserved by the medium's constraints and the film's frenetic pacing.

The sequel plunges into the narrative with little ceremony or exposition, expecting audiences to grasp the intricacies of Herbert's complex world with scant foothold. The lack of contextual grounding that a well-crafted exposition provides is sorely missed, making the entry point for newcomers virtually inaccessible and leaving even seasoned fans of the source material yearning for a moment of narrative respite.

Villeneuve’s vision remains visually unparalleled, with sweeping landscapes and monumental architecture that fully render the awe-inspiring vastness of Arrakis and beyond. However, the film's pace is unrelenting, careening through political intrigue, personal vendettas, and interplanetary conflict at a clip that leaves little room for the reflective depth that is the hallmark of the novel.

The ensemble cast, replete with stellar talent, finds themselves in a mad dash of scenes, where character development is often sacrificed at the altar of advancing the plot. It's a disservice to the actors and the audience alike, as moments of potential emotional weight are eclipsed by the next rapid narrative leap.

In this relentless forward march, "Dune: Part Two" misses the opportunity to breathe life into the quieter, more contemplative aspects of Herbert's work. The themes of power, ecology, and human evolution that are so central to "Dune" beg for a more measured exploration that a television series format could have afforded. The episodic nature of a series, with the luxury of time and episodic structuring, might have allowed for a richer and more nuanced delve into the interwoven plots and themes.

"Dune: Part Two" is a visual masterpiece that, unfortunately, falls prey to its cinematic bindings. While it delivers on the promise of action and grandeur, it leaves the thoughtful soul of its source material adrift in the sands of its own rapidity. The complexity of Herbert's world is such that it demands not just the visual canvas of cinema but the narrative breadth of a television series to truly do it justice. As it stands, "Dune: Part Two" is an exhilarating ride that may leave you more breathless than satisfied.
